To: The Members of the 2005-2006 Instructional Girls Basketball Team,

It is with great pride in which I write this letter to the players of the 2005 – 2006 Marlington Girls Instructional Basketball Team. Our season has come to an end and I would like to take a moment to share my reflections and highlights from this special team.

The 2005 – 2006 basketball season was a very enjoyable and gratifying year for me personally as your coach. We started with the very basics of basketball and then introduced the fundamentals of the game. This is where I witnessed the beginning of each player’s character beginning to develop. Your willingness to listen, attempting a skill, fail, re-attempt, improve, attempt, and improve…. this cycle continued the entire season.

This was very evident if you watched our first ball handling practice where balls were literally flying all over the Moulin Center. Then later in the season listening to the huge applause received from both home and visiting fans during and after our ball handling shows at the varsity games. Coach Rhodes, his staff and players along with visiting head coaches explained to me how impressed they were with your skills.

The last game played at Waterloo High School was very special to us as a team. It was a culmination of what we worked for as a team and to build a foundation for the future.

****The game started with intense team play and this intensity rose until the games conclusion.
**** Each individual teammate contributed to the success of the team
****Your competitiveness to succeed. Failure was and is not an option for this team.
****Your mental and physical toughness to come from behind and WIN!
****The leadership in the team huddle during a timeout where a determined teammate yelled, …”can we do this ladies!” And with extreme confidence the team yelled, “YES!” And then you broke huddle and DID IT!
****Seeing the excitement of Coach Griggs sitting on our bench and listening to him talk about this team’s potential in high school

Why is this team so special?

**** Your intensity mixed with the ability to make me laugh. What a fun and crazy bunch of girls!
****Friendship between teammates and how the relationships grew
****Watching you cheer together at the varsity games
****Drive to be successful

Lady Dukes you represented Marlington Schools, your family and yourself with class. I very much look forward to following your progress to high school and into the future.
