I can identify and explain why the following political leaders were important to the           United States: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, and           Martin Luther King, Jr.
I can identify and explain why the following scientists and inventors were important to           the United States: George Washington Carver, Thomas Edison, and Charles           Drew, and Rachel Carson.
I can identify and explain why the following explorers were important to the United           States: Neil Armstrong, and Christopher Columbus.
People in Societies
I can describe ways in which language, stories, folk tales, music, and art are cultural           expressions and influence people’s behavior.
I can describe the contributions of important individuals to the cultural heritage of the           United States including artists, inventors, scientists, architects, explorers, and           political leaders.
Government
I can identify leaders elected by the people:
