         I can construct timelines and identify relations between events.
         I can explain how Native Americans settled the continent and why different groups                 used their environment in different ways.
         I can explain why European countries explored and colonized North America.
         I can describe the influence of Spanish, French and English colonization in North                  America on language, food, traditions and architecture.
People in Societies
         I can compare the life and cultural traditions of Native Americans before and after                  the reservation system.
         I can use lines of latitude and longitude to find locations in North America.
         I can describe and compare the landforms, climates, population, culture and                  economic characteristics of areas in North America
         I can explain how climate is influenced by:
  • the earth and sun relationships
  • landforms
  • plant growth
         I can use patterns to identify regions in North America using physical and human                  characteristics.
         I can use distribution maps to describe the patterns of renewable, nonrenewable,                  and flow resources in North America including:
  • forests
  • fertile soil
  • oil
  • coal
  • running water
         I can explain how the physical characteristics of an environment affect human                  activities in North America.

          I can obtain information from a variety of print and electronic resources and                   analyze its reliability by the accuracy of the facts and the credentials of the                   source.
          I can locate information in a variety of sources using key words, related articles,                   and cross-references.
