Acquisition of Vocabulary

      I can determine the meaning of prefixes (un, re, pre) and suffixes (er, est, ful,                ness).
      I can use root words to determine the meanings of words.
Concepts of Print, Comprehension Strategies and  Self-Monitoring Strategies
      I can predict content and events, and support my predictions with details.
Informational, Technical, and Persuasive Text
      I can list questions about elements from informational text (why, who, where,                what if and how) and identify answers.
      I can classify ideas from informational text (main ideas/supporting details).
      I can analyze directions for proper sequencing.
Literary Text
       I can distinguish between stories and fables.
       I can identify words that appeal to the senses (describe).
Writing Process
      I can develop a letter for writing (pen pals).
      I can write an exclamatory sentence ( ! ).
      I can use transition words (because, last).
      I can add on to the writing style of a cumulative story. (This is the House that Jack               Built)
      I can use technology to write text.
      I can proof read to check grammar, spelling, punctuation and capitals in my                writing

Writing Applications

Writing Conventions
      I can spell words with plurals and verb tenses correctly.
      I can use correct punctuation for contractions ( ' ) and abbreviations ( . ) .
      I can use nouns, (person, place, thing) verbs ( action words) and adjectives
               (describing words) correctly.
